allAfrica.com: Nigeria: HIV Programmes Neglect Adolescents - Survey


The education and health needs of adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV) are not met by programmes targeted at HIV-positive groups in Nigeria, a survey has said.
For every three HIV-negative adolescents aged 15-19 years with a tertiary education, two HIV-positive adolescents, mostly females, never advanced to tertiary education, researchers reported.
"Those without HIV are far ahead in terms of access to tertiary education, and even within ALHIVs, females are worse off," said Dr Morenike Ukpong, who presented the study by Positive Action for Treatment Access (PATA) in Abuja.
